Hi, I’m Krister.
I’m a wildlife artist and naturalist and this site is where I share how I try to understand wildlife through drawing, journaling, and observation.
When I’m out in the field, I sketch from life and keep notes in my journal. I also use video to help me study behavior that moves too fast to fully capture while drawing.
These moments, whether it’s a northern flicker trying to fight for its territory in a forest or an osprey diving for supper, happen before I can get pencil to page. But there is so much to notice.
I will show you how I analyze what I see, learn to discover more, and also pass what I learn into my drawings and paintings. These all help my field work just as my field work helps my art making.
I am a member of Artists for Conservation as well as other national and local organizations. I’m also a certified Montana Master Naturalist and a Nature Journal Educator trained by the John Muir Laws program. I’ve also completed study with other groups such as the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
